Everyone has experienced fluid retention or swelling at some point. When fluid accumulates due to damage to the lymphatic system, whether congenital or as a result of surgery, we speak of oedema. In most cases, oedema can be reduced or even resolved, depending on the severity of the damage. The fluid seeks an alternative pathway and leads to fluid accumulation in the tissues surrounding the damaged area.
Extreme fluid accumulation can lead to restricted movement, painful body parts due to increased tension, deteriorated function of muscles and joints, and an increased risk of infections. The sooner treatment begins, the more effective the final result.
Fysiotherapie Wennekers has a specialised oedema therapist with years of experience. Menno Wennekers works according to the internationally recognised Vodder method for manual lymph drainage (MLDV). This holistic method, through its effect on the hormonal system, stress levels and immunity, has also been proven effective for stress-related complaints, intestinal complaints (such as constipation) and skin conditions (such as psoriasis).

Lymphoedema can be congenital (primary) or arise as a result of another condition, such as oncological surgery (secondary lymphoedema). This is the most common form.
Venous oedema is caused by weakened vein walls and occurs primarily in the legs. Think of swelling from varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency.
Lipoedema is an accumulation of fat and fluid in the arms or legs. Manual lymph drainage is a proven effective treatment that reduces pain and swelling.
Lymph drainage after liposuction helps drain the fluid more quickly, resulting in a faster and better outcome from the procedure.

We teach you about skin hygiene and how to manage oedema yourself, so you can actively contribute to the results at home.
A gentle massage technique that stimulates lymph drainage. Menno Wennekers works according to the internationally recognised Vodder method (MLDV).
Specific techniques to treat scars and fibrosis after surgery and thereby improve fluid flow.
A special taping technique that improves lymph fluid absorption and supports the lymphatic system between treatments.
Targeted movement exercises to restore strength and mobility after surgery or long-term complaints.
Relaxation and good breathing have a positive effect on the transport of fluid in the body. Targeted breathing exercises support lymph drainage during and between treatments.
Through bandaging or compression stockings, treatment results are maintained and the return of oedema is prevented.
You learn techniques to independently manage the oedema at home, so that you are as self-sufficient as possible.

“Kind and attentive man, even though physio massages do hurt a little of course. Knows when something is beyond his scope — such as a herniated disc that cannot be resolved through physiotherapy — and is honest about it. Great guy!”
“Due to my ADHD I find it very difficult to keep up with exercises at home. In the past I had become enormously frustrated with physiotherapy and had almost given up. Thanks to Menno I have regained that confidence. He is very good at keeping it fun and challenging and is able to work around my limitations. Because of that I genuinely enjoy going to him and I am seeing noticeable results!”
“I am so glad to have found Menno! He thinks along really well, has a lot of knowledge and I can usually get an appointment quickly. Highly recommended!”
